​Join us in Eastern, Ontario, near Barry's Bay and on the Madawaska River, for our Lit(erature) by the Lake Retreat: a weekend of reading, relaxation, and creating community with fellow book lovers! Our women's-only reading retreats bring book lovers together for a cozy, laughter-filled getaway packed with relaxing moments, fun book-inspired activities, and plenty of time to curl up with a good read.

What should I expect at the Retreat?

Throughout the weekend, you'll have the opportunity to participate in various indoor and outdoor activities, such as book-related crafts, spending time on the dock by the water, enjoying some quiet reading time, indulging in delicious food and campfires with s'mores (weather dependent), and browse our mini pop-up used book shop.

Our Retreat Venue:

Our cabin is right on the water! Relax on the dock, take a kayak out on the water, or hangout in the games room. As always, there will be plenty of room to gather and discuss our latest book obsession, or escape to a quiet corner for some peaceful reading time. There is plenty of parking available. The exact location of the venue will be included in your welcome package following your registration.

Guests:

Our retreats are intimate gatherings of 5-15 book lovers, ranging in age from 20s to 60s. Our shared passion for reading brings us together! Whether you're an introvert seeking quiet moments or a social butterfly, you'll find your fit!

Available Rooms:

• Private Room + Bathroom, King - on the main floor, with it's own private bathroom

• Private Room, Double - on the main floor

• Shared Room, Double - on the lower level with walkout basement, shares with the single bunk bed

• Shared Room, Single, Top and Bottom Bunk - on the lower level with walkout basement, shares with double bed

• BUNKIE, Shared Room, Single - a private mini cabin for two to share, situated a short distance away from the main cabin - this would be a great place for two friends to share (please note the bathroom for this room is in the main cabin)

What's included:

• Two nights accommodations - Every guest has their own bed within a shared space, or private bedroom, depending on which ticket is booked.

  • If you are travelling with a friend and would like to share a bed, please contact us before booking for a discounted price.

  • If you are travelling with a friend and would like to be placed in the same room (but not share a bed), there is a spot on the registration form to include their name.

• Five meals, from dinner on Friday to breakfast on Sunday

  • We can accommodate most dietary specifications, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergy-free - however, please contact us BEFORE booking to allow us to verify.

• Retreat Crewneck Sweater - Your new favourite sweater!

• Book Club Book - Before the retreat, all participants will receive a physical copy by mail of Homebound by Portia Elan, a 2026 Sci-Fi/Historical Fiction release, which will be the topic of the book club session. This is OPTIONAL reading, but a great way to connect with other retreat guests!

Once you've booked, you'll receive an email confirmation, as well as a waiver form to sign to complete your registration. Following your registration completion, you will receive a welcome package that includes more details about the weekend. The precise location will be provided the week of the retreat.
